A lawsuit filed with the U.S. District Court in Chicago alleges that Maytag Corp. has violated the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is claiming that the appliance manufacturer improperly demoted 13 of its 22 senior managers over the age of 50 who it feared would not be able to implement new sales procedures.
Meanwhile the U.S. District Court in Springfield, Massachusetts, found in favour of Milton Bradley, a division of Hasbro, Inc., in an age discrimination suit brought by former executive, Robert P. Joyal. E. David Wilson, president of Hasbro Games, said he was "pleased with the court's decision".
Wilson further explained that Joyal was not terminated because of his age but "for legitimate business reasons because he violated the company's Code of Corporate Conduct."
