Like Wine, Brains Get Better With Age
A new study has shown that the older the brain, the better at grasping the big picture. Allison Sekuler, one of the researchers at McMaster University, refers to it as the "amazing, changing, aging brain" and believes research has proven the idea that as people age they get fixed in their ways is wrong. In fact, some abilities are actually spared or improve with age.
The research project involved 34 subjects in their 20s and 31 subjects in their 60s. Findings showed that the younger brains were better at identifying details while the older brains were better at seeing the whole thing. Plus MRIs have shown that aging brains tend to tap into new areas to help them compensate for certain lost abilities.
