  32. "Hiring Older Workers" Article from Les Affaires, "Barry Witkin, President and founder of Prime 50+, an organization newly created for the age 50+ job seekers and the employers who want to hire them, suggest that companies who downsized them and are required to pay the obligation for the pension plan of the age 50+ employees, should ask Ottawa to finance a part of the hiring of older workers and also, ask all provinces to put an end to mandatory retirement (it has already been done in Quebec). Previously a Chartered Accountant, now retired, Barry Witkin created Prime 50+ during the summer of 2003 to help workers 50 years old and older to find work and to offer employers a bank of employees in this category. The organization already has three offices in Ontario and wants to expand in Canada, as well as in Quebec."  View PDF (french version)

  33. In a C.D. Howe Institute's Commentary, "Aging Populations and the Workforce: Challenge for Employers", William B.P. Robson, Senior Vice-president and Director of Research reviews the demographic shift in the working population and notes that workers aged 50+ will be needed to fill the gap. Barry Witkin, a retired Chartered Accountant, has started Prime50 to promote the 50+ age group to employers in "Answering The Need For A Changing WorkForce"; Vancouver Island News Group: Nanaimo News Bulletin, Lifestyles, Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, Page: 0031.

  34. On Monday March 26, 2004, CBC Radio One broadcast a documentary with host Anna Marie Tremonti that explored the issues of people who need to continue working even if they would like to retire. Barry Witkin was interviewed and gave his insight on the plight of the 50+ workers who can't retire as well as those 50+ individuals who are seeking employment opportunities.

  35. CBC Radio One FM broadcast a program "Sounds like Canada" hosted by Shelagh Rogers on Tuesday March 2/04 at 10:15 am which discussed the difficulties that the 50+ individual is having in obtaining employment opportunities.  The  50+ unemployed guests interviewed: was  62 year old man from Halifax, formerly a 35 year employee of Kodak, and a  57 year old woman  from Toronto, an administrative support person both of whom shared their experiences over the past year on how they were desperately trying to find a job. Prime50 Employment Services was asked by the CBC to provide case studies from their database of job seekers so that listeners could hear heart wrenching stories of the difficulties of the 50+ workforce getting jobs. It was on this basis that Prime50 was established because of all the false perceptions and myths of the 50+ workforce and the need to have a specialized company dedicated to the needs of the 50+  to be the catalyst for change in the workplace by providing employment opportunities and career services to the 50+ and give them the tools and confidence to enhance their chances for employment.

  36. Barry Witkin, a member of the advisory group of CARP's Award for the "Best Employers for the 50+" has written an article for the Oct/Nov issue of the "Carp Action" supplement of Prime50 Magazine on the "Tips and Facts on Employment Issues for the 50+ person."
